Today's Review: Tesco Double Chocolate Hot Cross Buns

I'm not really a fan of hot cross buns. There's something about the spices and the stodginess of the bread that doesn't sit well with me. But I'm willing to give them another go now that Tesco have brought out a variety of different hot cross bun flavours, and these double chocolate ones really interested me.

Basically, these are chocolate buns with chocolate chips. There's not really much about them that is traditionally like hot cross buns, apart from the aesthetic. Every part has just been replaced by chocolate, and although that's fine by me, don't expect to delve into a packet and taste all the spices you'd find in the original.

As they are though, these buns are pretty nice. They still suffer a bit from the bread being a bit stodgy, but they are certainly distinctly chocolatey, and the chocolate chips are a nice little treat that help break up any monotony. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy these again, but as far as hot cross buns go they're probably the tastiest I've had in a while.

My rating: 4/5
