There have been a fair amount of new crisp brands and flavours popping up this year, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down as autumn draws in. I picked up three bags of new flavours today, and two of them are from the new Popchips Ridges range. They're like Popchips, but with ridges, it's self explanatory really. They come in four different flavours, but I couldn't resist the chilli, as always, especially when it's labelled as "crazy hot".
These aren't exactly "crazy hot", but they are actually pretty hot. It's a bold chilli taste, with a nice smoky and sweet edge. I was pleasantly surprised by how balanced the flavour is, it's not too hot, but it doesn't take the easy way out either. It seems the ridges accentuate the flavour as well, and it's deeply infused into the slightly softer texture provided by the popped chips. Quite simply, these are fantastic, spicy crisps that are still providing a pleasant tingle on my tongue a while after eating. Maybe not crazy hot, but crazy good.
