Today's Review: Ben & Jerry's Sofa So Good

A new Ben & Jerry's flavour is a cause for celebration. Two Ben & Jerry's flavours should be a national holiday or something. Sadly, that is not the case, but thankfully we still have two new flavours to tuck into. They are both centred around sofas for some reason, and I went for this Sofa So Good over the Wholly Couch, but that also looked good. This is a very appealing sounding chocolate caramel concoction, comprising of caramel ice cream with chocolate brownies and chocolate cookies, mixed in with a salted caramel swirl.

This is good stuff, I had no doubt from the moment I read it. It's not a particularly bold venture for Ben & Jerry, it's stuff that they've put into tubs before, but it's all pretty well done. The caramel ice cream has a subtle, sweet flavour, not overwhelmingly caramel like you might expect. The chocolate chunks are plentiful and tasty, there seemed to be more cookie than brownie in my tub, but the brownie was a little soft and squidgy, so I was a bit more thankful for the smaller, crunchier cookies. The salted caramel swirl is a great touch, and although it wasn't present through some of the tub, when it did show up it really complemented the other flavours, adding a gooey, salty taste to the already present chocolate delight.

This is a great new flavour, it covers familiar territory but delivers a pretty fresh combination. Some of the elements may not be perfect, but altogether this is a great caramel chocolate mixture. Forget Sofa So Good, they should have replaced the "So" with "King".

My rating: 4/5

    1. I found both flavours in Tesco, I believe they're exclusives.

  2. They are both still only available as exclusives in Tesco and happily are currently on offer at £2.50 this week =) My preference is for Sofa So Good, but it is so intensely sweet at times that I have two scoops of it with one scoop of Wholly Couch to balance it out.

  3. I have just tasted this. All I can say is this is the worst ice cream I have ever had in my life. How can anyone like it??? The brownie is rubbery, flat and tasted uncooked and the salted caramel and ice cream surrounding it has a nasty carnation milk flavour. The only thing I found alright were the chocolate chips. After a few dips into it with the spoon I chucked the rest away. Never ever again.

  4. it's ok. but then you get to the big cookie pieces which taste like vomit. I'm a big fan of Ben and Jerry's but this is the worst one I've tasted

  5. This ice cream is vile. My partner and I had a few scoops and decided it was so sickly with such a nasty after taste, we threw it away and will never buy it again. Yuk!

  6. Really disappointed with this ice cream; sounds good from the ingredients, but the whole is less than the sum of its parts.

In future I'll stick with Phish food or salted caramel Haagen Dazs, still haven't found anything which can beat them.

  8. It is UNDERWHELMING compared to Phish Food and The Tonight Doh flavours (which are pure indulgence by comparison).

The brownies are stale and tasteless and the cookies are bland and nothing like any of the chunks in the above flavours - they nmdont make your mouth quiver with excitement at all (it just feels like it's going straight to your butt and for nothing!)!
