I had a hankering for some ice creams at Asda the other day, and a brief look at their Magnum-style offerings rewarded me with these fantastic sounding treats. Peanut butter ice cream is becoming a big thing nowadays, and I'm very glad it is. But Asda have combined this trend with another, throwing some salted caramel in for good measure.
These are quite Magnum like in stature, the outside is a crisp chocolate shell, which has a fair few peanut chunks scattered throughout. The innards consist of a peanut butter ice cream with salted caramel swirls. The shell is very nice, certainly not as thick and creamy as a Magnum, but a good quality chocolate with a nice bit of crunch and texture thanks to the peanuts. The ice cream is very good as well, a smooth peanut butter flavour that isn't too sickly. However, combined with the salted caramel, it does become a bit too sweet. Sure, the caramel is a nice addition, and the flavours work well together, but it's just a bit overwhelming for my taste. Aside from that, the swirls seem to be quite disproportionate, I only really got a taste of the caramel next to the chocolate shell, while the centre seemed to be mostly ice cream. Still, this is a great idea for an ice cream, and it's certainly one I'd consider buying again. It's not as good as Ben & Jerry's peanut butter ice cream offerings, but it\s well worth trying.
