Today's Review: Domino's Chicken Tikka Pizza

It's always a struggle deciding which takeaway to get. Stuck between an Indian and a pizza? Well, Domino's have you covered with their new chicken tikka pizza. It boasts tandoori chicken, red onions, tomatoes, and interestingly enough, onion bhajis, all on top of a tikka sauce. Now, I'm firmly in the barbecue sauce base camp, but I couldn't resist trying out a curry on top of my pizza.

Interestingly, the first point for this interesting creation was awarded as soon as it arrived. There was definitely a strong curry smell that was noticeable through the box. Opening it up, I was greeted with a generous array of toppings. The tandoori chicken is a staple Domino's ingredient, but the onion bhajis are certainly a new and interesting addition. The chicken is nicely spicy, certainly not massively hot, but enough to provide a bit of warmth. The sauce is surprisingly nice, a creamy, slightly hot offering that added to the curry experience. The best part for me, though, was the bhajis. They add a satisfying crunch to every slice, and each one packs quite a bit of flavour that goes really well with the spices already in play. So yes, the toppings are all good, I'm just not sure about the fact that they're on the pizza. I opted out of my original stuffed crust, and the classic was just a little too flat and dry, and certainly detracted from the tastiness of the toppings. Perhaps if they stuck it all on top of a massive naan it would be more authentic, but I don't know if that would work, I'm not a pizza scientist.

This tikka pizza is a very neat idea, that's pulled off pretty well. The toppings are all nice and tasty, the sauce is a great addition. But I think if I fancy curry in the future, I'll stick with actual curry. This pizza is worth a try, but I don't think it will make it into my top Domino's choices.

My rating: 4/5

  1. I'm exactly the same and you - normally opt for a BBQ base (have done since it became my pregnancy craving) but was too excited when I saw this! I really enjoyed it for a change, and am with you about the bhajis - whoever thought about putting onion bhajis on a pizza is a genius! My partner and I actually really enjoyed ours and will be ordering again for sure!

  2. Tried it last night and hated it. Curry sauce and pizza just doesn't cut it with me - unless I've done a gallon of beer first!

Perhaps one to try on the two for tuesday deal, but I'd not be rushing out to get this one on its own again.

  3. Worst pizza ever. How much are people paid to compliment such awful ingredients?

    1. Strange,I'm the opposite. I found it the best pizza they've ever done and find I just do not want to go to Dominoes so much anymore now they don't have the Tikka pizza. I don't really crave their other pizzas, the same bog-standard boring pizzas for a ridiculously high price.
