Dunkin' Donuts seem to have a nice rotation of special edition flavours. For the last couple of months they had the sweet shop varieties, and now they have some cheesecake flavours. I love cheesecake, and I love donuts, so this sounded like a perfect combination. They consist of a jam filled donut, topped with cheesecake frosting with added crumb.
The frosting is the main cheesecake-like component here, and it's actually pretty damn good. It's layered on nice and thick, and has a nice creamy consistency with a hint of mascarpone flavour. The crumb on top adds nicely to the texture, and makes for an overall authentic cheesecake experience. The jam is good, a bold, sweet, cherry filling that is crammed inside. There is perhaps a little too much of the jam, it does overwhelm the other elements, I feel like the jam on top is a bit of overkill, it could have done with more of the crumb, there's enough jam inside to contribute to the overall flavour. Still, this donut is tasty, and definitely in line with the theme it was going for. I'll probably be heading back to try the other cheesecake varieties soon.
